ahh... greenpoint.

Thanks to my cousin, Brian, for this recent photo.  It's my old corner in Brooklyn.  Wasco was actually our mechanic, too, although I doubt Brian was thinking of that when he sent this.  Our landlord for this apartment was a man named Roman.  He tried to keep our security deposit when we moved out and we got into a long drawn out fight about it.  Eventually we got it back.

what are the things I've always liked about guitar playing?  I really like melody.  I like interesting chord changes.  I don't really like guitar solos.  I like to hear Neil Young solo.  I like to hear Jeff Beck solo.  Jimmy Page? Other than that, it's just dull.

I'm always looking for guitar players who can take melodic ideas and use them in rhythmic or chordal senses.

Peter Buck.  my teenage hero.

I'm surprised to say this, but there were several REM songs from their new album that I liked when they played them on Austin City Limits.

This report on a recent study at Ohio State on teaching math is just the kind of thing that fuels arguments for a return to traditional pedagogy.
I can't tell you how many times I hear "We just need to go back to the basics" as an excuse for lock-step, non-inquiry based, rote memorization, teacher centered teaching.
As with everything, it is never one extreme or the other. A balance of abstract and concrete is the real solution here.
Oh, and the trains pass each other at 10 pm.
And I used a function table to solve it, but drew a diagram of trains to check it.

Stat line from Barack's hoop game today -
4 baskets, including a lefty 3 pointer. Is he lefty?
4 boards
2 steals
and against some high schoolers, no less.
Glad to see the smoking or the campaign stress haven't affected his game.

I now understand, on a deeper level, the expression "snot-nosed kid."

It's been a long, cold winter, but it was warm today.  Prompting the type of behavior exhibited by this dude.
